Recognize Women Making Progress This Women’s Equality Day
by Tracy Kalteux, Chief Human Resources Officer, Citizens Parking
There seems to be a holiday for everything these days from National Pizza Day to National Ice Cream Day and even Bring Your Dog to Work Day. With over 1,500 National Holidays, there is literally something to celebrate every day of the year. However, on August 26th, something very important but widely unknown is honored.
Forty-five years ago, Congress designated August 26th as Women’s Equality Day in commemoration of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting the right to vote to (most) women. It wasn’t until the 1965 passage of the Voting Rights Act that all Americans were truly guaranteed the right to vote.
Women’s Equality Day is an excellent reminder of all the progress we have made as a country towards ensuring equal rights for women. Today in virtually every sector of our society, women are making important contributions. Women successfully build and run our communities, government, schools, businesses, and corporations. These women are your friends, family, colleagues, bosses, influencers, and leaders.
So, on August 26, take a moment to celebrate the women who came before and the women with us today who are rewriting the rules and blazing new trails.Happy 2018 Women’s Equality Day on behalf of Women in Parking!
