Women In Parking Organization Networking Event Opens Discussion to Start EU Chapter

While the Women In Parking (W.I.P.) organization is widely recognized in the United States parking industry, it remains relatively unestablished within the European community. In concert with a number of European parking partners, the W.I.P. organization would like to change that by hosting an informational networking event on April 7, 2016 at the Intertraffic Amsterdam to introduce our organization, mission and member benefits. The event will be sponsored by W.I.P. corporate member Scheidt & Bachmann. Given the European labor market continues to see an increase in female representation in recent years, this event and the introduction of the W.I.P. organization is very timely for the industry as a whole.
The W.I.P. organization was founded in the U.S. in 2011 to serve as the premier association dedicated to promoting the advancement and achievement of female parking professionals by providing networking, leadership, and career outreach opportunities to its members. For the past four years, W.I.P. has worked diligently to offer resources that all organizations within the industry can access and take full advantage of to improve and capitalize on a gender balanced workforce within their respective organizations. The effort has paid off as the W.I.P. association currently has over 200 members and the support of many top parking companies both nationally and internationally.
W.I.P. membership is made up of both males and females from all levels within organizations. Many top level executives in parking – which are still predominantly male – support W.I.P.’s mission to encourage diversity within the workplace. Scheidt & Bachmann GmbH’s Managing Director and EPA Board associate member Martin Kammler says, “It is imperative that global leaders in parking recognize the valuable initiative that an organization such as Women In Parking can bring to business discussions. I am fully supportive of a more diverse environment where collaborative ideas can be brought to the table to reach our fullest potential. This is not only a matter of supporting gender equality in the workplace but more importantly about recognizing valuable talent within our organizations by giving them necessary tools to grow and succeed.”
W.I.P. in the U.S. has seen much success with membership by supporting its goals centered on education, networking and mentorship. W.I.P. provides a number of key educational opportunities including quarterly webinars and newsletters that offer practical insight from industry professionals. Networking events are also hosted by W.I.P. at almost every national parking exhibition including an annual conference where women and men alike connect, learn more about respective organizations and establish relationships for potential business opportunities. From an educational perspective, W.I.P.’s Mentoring program offers the greatest value to members as senior leaders provide guidance and insight to their paired mentees in the areas of professional and personal development. Such resources are often very rare to find within the industry.
It is following the same core principles and practices that W.I.P. hopes to share with its European counterparts come April of 2016 at Intertraffic Amsterdam. Many of Europe’s most influential female leaders in parking agree that female professionals are still underrepresented in the parking and transportation industry and are willing to contribute to making a positive change. As more female professionals continue to head up some of the largest parking businesses (i.e., Imperial Parking Systems, Zagreb Parking, and National Car Parks, just to name a few) as well as industry organizations, it only makes sense to engage all stakeholders.
It is with great hope that the Intertraffic Amsterdam and other similar parking conferences will see a more inclusive representation in attendance as well as engage discussion to build a brighter future for professionals in parking.
